Minimum Qualifications

All new entrants to the real estate industry, who intend on performing any of the functions of a real estate agent, must hold a Certificate of Registration issued by the Office of Fair Trading (OFT). When applying for a Certificate of Registration, the OFT requires a statement of attainment from a Registered Training Organisation (RTO) stating that the applicant has successfully completed the relevant Course in Property Practice.

The competency based training system forms the basis for the qualification requirements for the property industry sector in New South Wales. The training package and units of competency are available through the National Training Information Service website.

Under a competency based model, education and training no longer need to be undertaken in the traditional classroom environment but may take the form of on-the-job learning and training assessed by qualified assessors or competency based courses. Recognition of prior learning also provides a pathway towards a qualification.

Completing a Nationally Recognised Course in Property Practice with an RTO ensures your qualification is highly regarded by employers because your training is backed by the Australian Quality Training Framework – giving you the edge as you break into the real estate industry.
